| Among vedik peoples, no matter where they are in the world, tomorrow,
August 10th, 2002, starts the sshraavan maas,
the 10th lunar month of the year is the most holy month of the vedik year.
This is the month during which many people do various karma to
atone for their paapi karma..... or do vrat to
attain their life desires.....or those who are sshiv bhakta
perform daily special puujaa offerings to sshiv-bhagvaan....celebrate
the birth of vishnu-dev's 8th avataar of shree
krishna.....keep safe from the 5-minute death from the bite of naag
(cobra) by propitiating naag-dev on sud or vad paacham....propitiate
sshitalaa-devi so that small-pox does not ravage the humanity and
especially the children...and of course on rakshaa-bandhan day
re-promise your sister that you will protect her for the coming year.......
....it is a holy month and so just be holy in the sense of upholding one's dharma
in one's daily thinking, words and deeds of karma and performing daily bhakti
by remembering brhmah once a day is also good enough in
this kali-yug....according to ved punya
fruits from dharmik karma takes 1 day to be attained in kali-yug
where as the same would take you a month to attain in the previous dvapara-yug
which was the time of shree krishna's avtaar and will take a year to
achieve the same in treta-yug which was the time of shree raam's
avataar.....
