The current science explains eclipse as a physical phenomenon in space
between three objects in space - sun, earth and moon..
..In one of six ang (limbs) of ved called jyotish
ved-ang , the astronomy therein forecasts the same event which are
documented in the annual vedic panchaang published in bhaarat (India)..
..jyotish ved-ang also contains
mathematics for all the planetary movements and time calculations of the working
of our world..
..and on top of the mathematical science, there is the aadhyaatmik
(science of aatmaa or
soul) part of jyotish-ved which
explains the eclipses.... as the planet raahu
swallowing the moon during the eclipse because of the feud that happened in vishnu-dev's
second avataar of kurma
(tortoise).
...in the kurma avtaar episode, after devo
had obtain the immortalizing and strength giving amrut
(nectar) from the churning of kshir-saagar
(celestial ocean of milk), one of the asuraa
took the form of a dev to drink the amrut
which was denied to all asuraao who
had taken part in obtaining it from
kshir-saagar...however this impersonating asuraa
was discovered by chandra-dev
(moon god)....in punishment vishnu-dev
cut off the impersonating asuraa's head when discovered....but pardoned him by
converting his head into the planet raahu...so
in eternity raahu, still being mad at
chandra-dev who manifests as moon, swallows
him up for the period of the eclipse..
..the aadhyaatmaa or spiritual
essence of this event is the part of understanding karma theory in ved
whereby your fal (fruits)
of karma keeps on repeating their cycles
of mutual re-payment...creating karma cycles of unending dukh
(pain and sorrow) unless the cycles are broken by living life according to dharma..
