GUJARAT QUAKE: RECONSTRUCTION: GUJARATI SPIRIT WILL NOT WALK AWAY

22,000 rupees per house estimated for reconstruction.

2.5 billion rupees allocated to provide for qauke resistant houses. This is addtional costs to normal rebuilt cost for those below povery line.

GUJARATI SPIRIT WILL REBUILD: Lodai Village Chief, Laxmanbhi Dangar sums up the rebuilding spirit of the Gujarati people: "Our village of 3000 farmers has been wiped out and nothing remains standing. But this is not going to worry us. There is no way we are going to leave this village which is close to our heart. We will get food and water somehow and pool resources to start life all over again." Lodai is 35 km from Bhuj, the epicentre of the quake.
