DAY 18: GUJARAT QUAKE: TV CAUSED THE QUAKE & MORE AFTERSHOCKS & MORE FUNDS

MUSLIMS BLAME TV FOR QUAKE: Muslims leaders have recommended to thier followers to stop using TVs which they say spreads obscenity and thus bring in wreath of the Gods in the form of earthquake. This is in line with their teachings of their faith.
AFTERSHOCKS INCREASE: 9 aftershocks registering between 3.1 and 4.0 were experienced on Sunday February 11th night. The frequency of aftershocks has increased since February 8th night. This brings the total to 286 aftershocks of more than 3.0 intensity since the big one on January 26th.
2000 CRORE LOAN FOR RECONSTRUCTION: The World Bank and Asian Bank together with other banks have agreed to loan 2000 crore rupees (200 billion rupees) for reconstruction in Gujarat quake areas by March 31st, 2001.
UNBELIEVEABLE HOUSING CALAMITY: It has been estimated that 70 percent of the houses in 207 villages in Kutch has been destroyed in the quake and would need an estimated cost of upto 3500 crore rupees to reconstruct. The Disaster Management Authority has made plan to start construction of 80,000 quakeproof houses immediately. |
