VEDIK MATHEMATICS.......What does it mean?
Posted by Champaklal Dajibhai Mistry on August 23, 2003

The word veDik mathematics, is being used among the current humankind as some sort of esoteric science contained in esoteric veD....I am using the word "esoteric" as it means:

  •    something designed for or understood by the specially initiated alone or
  •    doctrines which guard a mystery known only to the initiated
  •    something confined or limited to a small circle and treated as  PRIVATE, CONFIDENTIAL as in "some esoteric reason known only to God only"

But then those who have learned any type of mathematics know that it is a science which is neither a mystery or confined to a chosen few. Surely, mathematics appears to form the foundation of all current sciences. But this concept exists and prevails because of the lack of total knowledge of creation and life which is known as veD. ....

Please click on the next line to continue reading about the awakening about the knowledge of mathematics in veD = SCIENCES OF CREATIONS AND LIFE....

Mathematics is defined as:

  •  a science that deals with the relationship and symbolism of numbers and magnitudes and that includes quantitative operations and the solution of quantitative problems.

And when we come to the word veD....that is as esoteric as it can get among all humans on this planet earth... and surprisingly veD is now becoming esoteric among the peoples of bhaart (India) who, as all life signs indicate, have lived veDik lifestyles for generations immemorial...

But when one studies veD one realizes that veD contains numbers in all its knowledge about the creation of this universe as we know, sustenance of all created in the universe we know and timed and cyclic absorption of all created in the creator for re-creation in this and other universes.....

Numbers is defined as the art of computation through the various branches of mathematics such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, etc.....and through computation humans calculate and reckon the existence perceived in every day life such as time, wealth, possessions, trade, motion, existence of life itself by counting the numbers of breath one takes or the blood pressure.....

To me the esoteric discovery of veDik mathematics is just an awakening that mathematics is present in veD now, has been present since the start of creation and will be present for eternity.......All the mathematics that is known to humans at the present moment is in veD and all that will be discovered in future is also in veD....

But this mathematics is not easy to find in veD because the language of veD which is sNskrut. sNskrut as is known now is a highly technical language which has been only partially deciphered....thanks to the partial grammar in sNskrut figured out by the sage paANiANi some 2500 years ago....The grammar of sNskrut is so complex that it has enabled the writing of all the presently known texts of veD in aphorisms. The power of sNskrut language is similar to continually evolving compressed language of computer technology whereby now a computer chip of 1 millimeter dimension can contain a million mathematical formulas to do million human tasks.

Why is the claim that veD contains all the mathematics known to humans and to be known in the future? Here are some facts leading to that:

  • Peoples of bhaart (India) who have lived veDik lifestyle for generation immemorial gave the present humanity the notion of the number 0 (zero)...and taught the world how to count......remember the song from the famous movie Purab Aur Paschim....jab zero diyaa mere bhaartne...duniyaako tab ginati aayi....

  • Astrology and astronomy is called jyotiSH-shaasTR in veD and forms one of the six veDNg which are appendices to 4 veD. In this jyotish-shaastra is taught the mathematics pertaining to astronomy on which astrology is based. And if we remember how powerful and complex this astronomical mathematics is then we can imagine the possibility of computations to create all the calendars and charts done by peoples of bhaart since times immemorial by mental methods.with veDik mathematical science.

  •  The history of Aryabhata illustrates the existence of mathematics in veD......Aryabhata (476 - 550 AD) was a veDik scholar born in the Asmaka region of the Vakataka dynasty in South India. He wrote the Aryabhatiya which is a small astronomical treatise written in 118 verses giving a summary of veDik mathematics up to that time. Its mathematical section contains 33 verses giving 66 mathematical rules without proof. The Aryabhatiya contains the reckoning of time and planetary models, the sphere and eclipses. The mathematical part of the Aryabhatiya covers arithmetic, algebra, plane trigonometry and spherical trigonometry. It also contains continued fractions, quadratic equations, sums of power series and a table of sines.  It consists of giving numerical values to the 33 consonants of the Indian alphabet to represent 1, 2, 3, ... , 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. The higher numbers are denoted by these consonants followed by a vowel to obtain 100, 10000, .... In fact the system allows numbers up to 1018 to be represented with an alphabetical notation. This shows that Aryabhata knew the sign for zero and the numerals of the place value system. This supposition is based on the following two facts: first, the invention of his alphabetical counting system would have been impossible without zero or the place-value system. And secondly, he carries out calculations on square and cubic roots which are impossible if the numbers in question are not written according to the place-value system and zero. The algebra contained in the Aryabhatiya is essentially the use of the Euclidean algorithm to find the highest common factor of a and b but is also related to continued fractions which came about only 500 years ago. Aryabhata gave an accurate approximation for pi = 3.1416 which is a surprisingly accurate with current value of pi.  = 3.14159265 correct to 8 places.  Aryabhata provided indications of position of the planets in space. He believed that the apparent rotation of the heavens was due to the axial rotation of the Earth when all western humans believed that the earth was the centre of the entire solar system. Only in the sixteenth century Copernicus found out that what Aryabhata knew. Aryabhata gives the radius of the planetary orbits in terms of the radius of the Earth/Sun orbit as essentially their periods of rotation around the Sun. He believed that the Moon and planets shine by reflected sunlight and that the orbits of the planets are ellipses. He correctly explained the causes of eclipses of the Sun and the Moon.  His value for the length of the year at 365 days 6 hours 12 minutes 30 seconds as against the current value of 365 days 6 hours. (Extracted from the web page http://www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Aryabhata_I.html. Please visit the web page if you wish more details of Aryabhata's work.)

Aryabhata was the master who gave the three sciences to the world....where did this knowledge come from?........

(This posting as a sharing of veD = SCIENCES OF CREATIONS AND LIFE will continue as the information is compiled by SRii chmpklaal daajibhaai misTRii ...who prays that our creator bRH`m will bestow His grace on us for all of us to continue to learn through this topic in days to come....
