| 800,000 NEW HOUSES IN 3 MONTHS: to be constructed by Gujarat government. Gujarat has hired 3000 civil engineers support by workers from quake hit families to construct 3000 units of livable structures by June 30th in worst hit areas of Kutch. The latest cost of reconstruction of housed damaged in quake stands at 6,000 crore rupees. In Anjar City the people have agreed to relocation of 6000 houses and 700 shops to a new site.
90 PERCENT OF KUTCH FLATTENED VILLAGES REFUSE RELOCATION: and wants rehabilitation at the same site. This has thrown a major curve in the 1.5 crore rupees scheme of re-construction of villages at new sites by "adoption" method of non-government agencies.
NO MORE SWIMMING POOLS & TERRACE GARDENS IN HIGH RISES: The Gujarat government has directed six urban municipal corporations and other urban development agencies to take legal actions against builder who had constructed swimming pools and terrace gardens in high rises without permits and proper engineering.
ART OF LIVING FOUNDATION SPEARHEADS SPEEDY SCHOOLS RESTORATIONS: in association with Amdavad Managment Association has already designed a quake-resistant school which can be constructed quickly with steel structures and start operating with a tarpauline cover until the entire permanent structure can be build on the steel frame. This will get the 100 damaged beyond use schools in the qauke affected areas going so that the students do not miss out a year. One classroom is estimated to cost Rs 11,000 and average school of 10 classroms could be built with Rs 110,000. This type of construction mode will take about 3 days to set up a school.
